Remark by H.E. Im Sethy, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport,
At the Signing Ceremony of MoU on Eye Health Education Program in Primary Schools between the MoEYS, Cambodia and The Fred Hollows Foundation
06 April 2012

-Ms. Veronica Bell, Acting Director of the Fred Hollows Foundation
-Excellencies
-Distinguish Guests
-Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, with a special salute, I would like to convey to the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) our sincere appreciation of the splendid cooperation given to Cambodia, and the very kind assistance of Ms. Veronica Bell and your colleagues this time could be a close partnership essentially secured the life skill-based education in Cambodia.

As far as I have known, since The Fred Hollows Foundation was established in Australia in 1992, this non-governmental organization with a clear vision for "A World where no one is needlessly blind" has worked with local blindness prevention agencies and health providers over 38 countries in Asia, Africa and the Pacific. Starting from 1998, FHF has supported the local efforts to combat avoidable blindness and visual impairment in Cambodia in partnership with the Ministry of Health which is strategically aligned to the National Strategic Plan for Prevention of Blindness.

With the FHF's contribution of US$ 1,014,684 for a 4-year project (2012-2015) to Cambodia education, I am very pleased to see that Eye Health Education Program is strongly focusing on primary eye health prevention education for the primary school teachers and students, particularly in the 5 selected provinces. This program include curriculum development and relevant material for Information Education and Communications (IECs) to teach at primary schools and promote the usage of eye care service which is located near their home.

Once again, I sincerely appreciate your kind assistance and gratefully anticipate your good gesture to help us in the field of education development for Cambodian children.
