5       Geographic Data

(All geo-data sources collated utilise a Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection of a India Everest 1960 spheroid. Accurate transformation parameters to international standard WGS 84 datum are currently unavailable)

  • General topographic information (primarily based on 1970’s US military 1:50,000 scale maps, digitised and partially updated by the Geographic Department of the Council of Ministers (GD), 1998/9

  • Digital boundary layers for the demographic census administrative borders (provinces, districts and communes), GD, 1998/9

  • Village gazetteer (approximately 13,000 village co-ordinate point database, primarily based on UNTAC pre-election surveys in 1993, updated by GD for the demographic census), GD, 1998/9

  • EMIS geo-referenced school database 1998/9 (cross-referenced for each of the approximately 6,500 schools via village code using the above source), 1999

  • Least distance school and cluster catchment areas derived via Thiesson tesselations in a Geographic Information System (GIS) using the above source, 1999
